Red Sunset

Red Sky at Night

Heaven’s bursting light,

Curtain of Crimson and Gold,

Darkness lies in wait.

Tonight’s Everything Red is a recycle/redo of a glorious sunset and a Haiku. Photograph was taken with my cellphone, from outside one of my classrooms. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I saw the sky light up in red. It was so beautiful I had a hard time concentrating after that.

Off to slumber now…

Sweet dreams!

Roses

Nostalgia

Butterfly kisses,

Sweet memories, pure and chaste,

Taste of innocence.

Today’s Everything Red is another recycling project; a collage of red roses with a guiltless white. It stands out like a sore thumb… the white sheep of the family. There’s some symbolism there I’m sure.

Reusing the old arouses nostalgia… it’s a great way to bring new life to things long forgotten. I think I’m psyching myself up for something here… a little dream chasing, perhaps. Time will tell.

Anyway, this Everything Red Art and the Haiku were created for the Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge: Chaste & Taste

Abstract Art Exhibit

The Exhibit

Let the fire inside you burn.

I’m having a fun time with this new series. The possibilities are endless, and I think of new things every day. I’ve recycled some older pieces for today’s Everything Red. The red abstract is from many moons ago, and the shadowy aesthete is my youngest son—posing in a photo I took over a decade ago, at an art museum.

Rescue Abstract Art

Rescue 27

Sometimes a dramatic rescue is a simple act of showing up.

This piece is all about Gil. I think of him when I see red, especially if it’s an emergency vehicle. He’s the kind of person that just shows up. I’m extremely grateful for his friendship, ear, wisdom, and his extraordinary ability to point people in the right direction— Up.

I took some photos a few years back, when my friend and I visited him at the Station. I wanted to create something bold and exciting… something to represent the “constant motion” that is everything Gil.

So…this one’s for you my friend.

This image is actually one of my favorites in the Everything Red series so far. It’s kind of an abstract, faceless portrait.

Anyway, I thought I’d wrap it up with these 7 Points from one of his favorite people.

-Be true to yourself.
-Help others.
-Make each day your masterpiece.
-Drink deeply from good books, especially the Bible.
-Make friendship a fine art.
-Build a shelter against a rainy day.
-Pray for guidance and count and give thanks for your blessings everyday.

Strawberry

Sweet & Sour

To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.

François de la Rochefoucauld

It’s National Strawberry Day here in the States! I accidentally stumbled on this fact last night, so I searched the garden high and low this morning for a celebratory fruit. And here we have it… one beautiful RED strawberry, ripening on the vine.

I probably don’t eat strawberries as often as I should—or could. But since I’m gearing up for my “Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy New Me” launch in March, it’s the perfect time to pay tribute to these sweet (and sometimes sour) babies.

Strawberries are a delicious, healthy replacement for the processed sugar that I love so much, so I’ll be seeing more of them soon! Besides being a great source of fiber and vitamin C, strawberries offer many additional benefits. Here are a few that I found.

Health & Wellness Benefits

  • Boost immune system
  • Regulate blood pressure
  • Protect against cancer
  • Promote healthy eyesight
  • Promote skin vitality
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Fight bad cholesterol
  • Treat symptoms of arthritis
  • Help regulate mood
  • Reduce risk of stroke
  • Make for a delicious smoothie!

So that’s that. Day #3 of Everything Red: Strawberries

Thank you for reading, I hope you found some enjoyment here!

Signs

Get up and go!

You create enthusiasm around you.

PANDA EXPRESS

Inspiration can come from just about anywhere… including a fortune cookie. So… thanks to my last fast food adventure… today’s Everything Red is about enthusiasm.

According to several articles on the psychology of color, the color red is energizing. It excites the emotions and motivates us to take action. I think that one of the things that’s held me back lately was a lack of enthusiasm. Nothing was exciting me, so my immediate assumption was that everything was all wrong. I was on the wrong path.

But maybe lack of enthusiasm is just a synonym for self-doubt. We want to be excited about our direction, but we hold ourselves back. We stop, when really we should GO.

I did a remake of an old photograph from my last camping adventure. It’s kind of ironic that—although the color red apparently prompts us to take action—everywhere you look it’s telling us NOT TO. No wonder we’re so conflicted!

So, today I will be enthusiastic. I will not doubt, I will just GO.

Knowledge is power but enthusiasm pulls the switch.

And according to Panda, we create enthusiasm around us as well. Let’s all spread some enthusiasm! 😉

Girl in Red

Country Fair

Country music is three chords and the truth.

Harlan Howard

Now that my garden art is dead and gone (the series, not the garden), it’s time to start something new. The journaling just isn’t working for me. It’s not really coming from my heart. I think maybe introspection—and writing about introspection—needs to be done offline.

Maybe some thoughts really ARE supposed to be private. I can’t say the things I need to say, or discover what I need to discover, when I know that other people are listening. Ha! Go figure. After thinking long and hard, I’ve decided that the next series is going to be…

Everything Red.

Photographs, writing, and who knows what. Anything and everything that is about, includes, or is inspired by the color red.

So… tonight I’m going with this Country Fair photograph.

I’m not sure if the girl in red was looking at me, or at someone behind me, but she doesn’t look too happy. Maybe she was seeing red?? Anyway, that’s about all for now. I hope you enjoyed the image and will come back soon for some more on red.

Peace & Love!

I’ve never hosted a challenge, and not sure I’m even set up for it, but if red inspires you to try something new… feel free to share it!
